Star Soraya Soltan

Star Soraya Soltan is a lawyer.  She received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Davis.  She began her career in the white-collar criminal defense field, later joining a high profile securities litigation firm in San Diego, California that represented defrauded shareholders in actions against corporations and their officers and directors. She currently has her own practice and is semi-retired.  She has served on various community boards including Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, the YMCA Camping Board (providing scholarships to underprivileged children), NeighborHelp, the American Civil Liberties Union in San Diego, and the Rancho Santa Fe Education Foundation.

She helped found, and served as a founding trustee for two terms of, a 500-student private high school, Pacific Ridge School, whose mission includes global engagement, ethical responsibility, and a purposeful life. She is also very involved in WorldReader, a non-profit organization providing digital books to children in the developing world, including Syrian refugee camps and UNHCR camps in Tanzania. She is the member of several giving circles that provide grants to non-profit organizations that address the needs of foster children, youth unemployment, and the disabled. She also heads a water project in South Africa to provide borehole wells to elementary and pre-schools near Kruger National Park.

Her current passion is mentoring: eight high school students born in Thai refugee camps whose parents fled persecution from the Burmese army in Myanmar, three junior high school girls on a robotics team, and several students from a girls’ soccer academy she supports in Kibera, Kenya.
